Install Android 4.4.4 KitKat on Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-R970C (Cricket) via OmniROM

  1. Check device Battery. It must be 80% filled to avoid any issues during the process.

  4. Check your device model number. For this go to Settings > about device > Model. It must be SCH-R970C.
  5. Enable USB debugging mode
  6. Download USB Drivers for Samsung Devices

How to install Android 4.4.4 KitKat update on Cricket Galaxy S4 SCH-R970C via OmniROM:

Follow each step carefully

  • Connect your S4 wit PC using USB cable. Copy the above mentioned downloaded files to your SD card. (don’t extract any file)
  • Disconnect your device from PC and turn off your Cricket Galaxy S4 SCH-R970C
  • Then boot into recovery mode and for this, press and hold volume up, home and power keys simultaneously until Samsung Logo flash twice and then leave the button. Recovery menu will appear soon. In recovery menu use volume keys to navigate between options and power button to select any option.

For CWM/PhilZ Touch Recovery Users:

  1. First of all Back up your existing ROM. So that you can restore this later if new ROM would not work or you want to go back to previous ROM. To perform back up, selectBack up & Restore, then on Next screen select Back up again. Go back to main recovery menu once back up is completed.
  2. After taking backup, perform data wiping task. For this, first select “wipe Cache”, then navigate to “advanced” and select “ Delvik Wipe Cache” so that you won’t get in any bootloop. And finally select Wipe Data/Factory reset.
  3. Then navigate to “install zip from SD card”. Another window will appear, select “choose zip from SD card” from the options. Locate the Omni Nightly zip file that you copied earlier and select it by using power button and confirm the installation on the next screen. On confirmation ROM installation will begin.
  4. Once the ROM installation process is done, repeat the above step (step 3) but instead of ROM zip, select to install Google Apps package.
  5. Once installation is over, repeat step 3 again but this time select instead of ROM zip to root your device.
  6. Once installation ends, Go back to main recovery menu and select “Reboot System Now” to reboot your Galaxy S4 SCH-R970C (Cricket) and boot up into Android 4.4.4 KitKat ROM omni nightly.

To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, choose backup and restore then restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.

For TWRP recovery Users:

  1. First of all create a backup using TWRP back-up option.
  2. Then perform a factory reset. For this tap on wipe, then at the bottom of the screen swipe on the Swipe to factory reset option.
  3. Then add zip file for flashing. Tap on install, and then go to the location where you have saved files and tap on the Omni nightly Zip file. After this click on Add more Zipsand add and Now at the bottom of the screen, swipe on the Swipe to confirm flash option to start flashing.
  4. On completion of installation process, go back to main recovery menu and tap onReboot and then tap on the System to reboot your Galaxy S4 SCH-R970C (Cricket) and boot up into Android 4.4.4 KitKat ROM omni nightly.

To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, choose backup and restore then restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.

Solve Signature Verification Error:

  • Open Recovery
  • Navigate to install zip from SD card.
  • Go to Toggle Signature Verification and Press Power button and see if it is disabled or not
  • Disable it and then install Zip without any Error

    What known bugs does this rom have? I’ve had tried several other roms before and had a problems with texting and constant dropped calls. Also, does this rom eliminate touchwiz?
